Outreach: American Indian Outreach

Providing Access to Information and Opportunities

Regional/National

PACE seeks to increase access to relevant resources and advisors for indigenous women in science through several initiatives. PACE has hosted several workshops and tribal women's focus groups, also known as Talking Circles. Additionally, PACE helped host a pilot workshop of the Indigenous Evaluation Institute, an NSF-sponsored project of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC). At the Indigenous Evaluation workshop, PACE distributed Flash Drives to participants, which include a compilation of useful resources for American Indian women in science.

International

PACE is currently developing an international network of indigenous women in science. An initial charter meeting of the network is slated for fall/winter 2007. PACE Outreach Co-Director Iris PrettyPaint has arranged for the permanent placement of a portal for this network on the AIHEC website.

Collaboration and Networking

On-Campus

PACE has hosted two visiting scholars. Iris PrettyPaint (Blackfeet) visited in 2004 to discuss American Indian education with faculty, staff, and students at UM-Missoula. Visiting Scholar Bertha Brown (Northern Cheyenne) assisted PACE with assessment of PACE Outreach programs during her stay at UM-Missoula during the summer of 2006.
