The ADVANCE Program

The National Science Foundation launched the ADVANCE initiative "to increase the participation of women in the scientific and engineering workforce through the increased representation and advancement of women in academic science and engineering careers."

At The University of Montana-Missoula, we have formed an alliance of central administrators, deans, department chairs, and faculty to change policy, recruit more women faculty, mentor and retain faculty, fund three new tenure-track hires, and form a state-wide network of women scientists. The efficacy of these activities will provide a national-level model for change in universities located in small, rural communities. Check out the ADVANCE Program at The National Science Foundation.
